Trapping
Beavers and Muskrats: Muskrats are a problem in ponds because their burrowing weakens dams. Beavers try to clog drains or spillways. These animals can be removed through trapping. So far this is the only effective control.
Turtles and Snakes: Turtles and snakes rarely are a threat to fishes in a sportfishing pond because they are scavengers and move too slow to catch healthy fish. They are usually a nuisance to pond owners. Trapping is a simple way to help reduce the number of turtles and snakes.
Down South Pond has obtained a commercial trapping license to help pond owners experiencing these problems.
